How We Started

Thirty Scott County teachers representing Anne Mason Elementary, Eastern Elementary, Garth Elementary, Northern Elementary, Southern Elementary, Stamping Ground Elementary, Western Elementary, Royal Spring Middle, Scott County Middle, and Cardinal Academy, particpated in a one day hands-on workshop with the purpose of learning to create newscasts at their schools using Adobe Visual Communicator 3 software.

Our Teacher

Rob Zdrojewski, affectionately called "Mr. Z" by students at Amherst Middle School, NY, a Technology Education Teacher, Director of the nationally recognized Amherst Middle School Tech TV, and Adobe Education Leader.

The Software

Visual Communicator 3, software with built-in teleprompter, green screen technology, and hundreds of graphics, music clips, and special effects truly excites teachers and students for teaching and learning with technology!

This software can be used for creating newscasts, distance learning presentations, conferences, projects, and just about anything that involves digital media! Its many accessibility options, including closed captioning is an added benefit which supports ESL and individuals with disabilities.

Our Learning Experiences

Our workshop began with a "live" introduction to Visual Communicator 3, our first example of the process and what the software looks like from a student perspective as Mr. Z read his script via the built-in teleprompter, with cutaways to many student projects, awesome effects, and images.

Participants followed a 5-step process for learning the basics of Visual Comminicator 3 supported by a training video (CD) designed by Mr. Z to allow participants to review or escalate their own learning process. The CD also includes oodles of sample projects across all areas of content and grade levels, handouts, and scoring rubrics.

After exploring the software and 5-step process, it was time for us to create a project!
Our room filled with video cameras, computers, tripods, and headsets buzzed as participants eagerly began creating a "Caring Message".

We learned that use of Visual Comminicator 3 would assist us in providing our students with the tools to create school newscasts!
